I tried these exit slips out in my summer school class and I loved them. I was able to create small learning groups based on what each kid wrote at the end of the day. And I could watch their confidence grow as their comments and questions changed over the three week course. After talking with co-workers and my principal, I am going to adjust how I use these in my classroom. The plan is to vary what the kids write about. Whether it be a true-end-of-the-day exit slip or whether I prompt them to write about a specific subject, I haven't decided. I want to make sure this is something I and the kids can manage and benefit from throughout the entire school year. I bought each kid a composite notebook for them to glue their slips into after I have read them. At the end of the week or the month I will send the notebooks home and have the parents write their own reflection or comments on the following blank page. (I'll write reflections and comments as well). I hope this will be another way to communicate progress and to involve the parents in their child's education a little more.
I accidentally came across this webpage when I was searching for ideas for the first day of school. (I'll share those ideas, too). I love the songs The Classroom DJ has suggested to use. His suggestions even made me think of more songs to add. I never thought of using some of the songs for the classroom. Now I'm going to pay attention to songs to see if there are more songs that I can add to my playlists.
I like Spotify, so far, because I can pick the specific songs that play. When I use other online music players I end up hearing songs that are "similar" to what I have requested. With Spotify I don't have to worry about what song is going to play. They do play a 30 to 40 second commercial every now and then. Which can be eliminated by subscribing. If you have an iPhone, there is an app for that, too! Typically I do a Google search in images for the clip art I am hoping to find. But I really like to use Phillip Martin's free clip art. I have searched for his individual clip art in Google images. Or you can search his webpage:
